Ready to choose

There's no need for Super Choice to be complex. Just follow these simple steps and you'll find it's super easy!

How to choose

1. First make sure you're eligible

2. If you're eligible

Your employer must clearly inform you about Super Choice and give you a standard choice form (347KB) if you are a new employee or within 28 days of requesting one. For more detailed conditions under which you may receive a standard choice form, click here.

If HOSTPLUS is your employer's specified employer fund in Part A of the form, and you would like your contributions to continue to be paid to HOSTPLUS you don't need to do a thing. However, you should still complete a membership form which can be found in the HOSTPLUS Member Guide Product Disclosure Statement (2.2MB).

Please note that if your Federal award or NAPSA specifies HOSTPLUS, then your employer's specified fund (default fund) must be HOSTPLUS.

If you want to stay with HOSTPLUS and HOSTPLUS isn't the specified employer fund, you will need to nominate your preference to be with HOSTPLUS on a standard choice form (347KB).

3. When and who you can choose

You don't have to choose right away or at all. You can request Super Choice by submitting a form or simply request your choice in writing, as long as you provide all the required information, at any time. It's up to your employer how often they allow you to make a choice, but legally they are only required to act on your choice every 12 months.

If you don't exercise Super Choice (and don't return a standard choice form), your Superannuation Guarantee contributions simply go into the fund your employer has chosen as their employer fund in Part A of the standard choice form (347KB).

Put simply, you can choose any complying fund to which your employer is able to make contributions, including your own self-managed fund. However, it is your responsibility to make sure you provide a letter of compliance (2.19KB) (also known as complying fund letter) with your choice form.

4. Now make your choice

Remember, if your employer has their employer fund with HOSTPLUS,you don't need to do anything. Otherwise, just fill out Part B of the standard choice form (347KB) and nominate HOSTPLUS. Then return the form with all relevant attachments to your employer.

The standard choice form needs to be accompanied with a 'letter of compliance', to inform your employer that HOSTPLUS is a complying fund by law, and how they can pay contributions into your superannuation account. Your employer then has two months to act on your request.

You can access an online standard choice form and 'letter of compliance' now, which you can either download and fill out at your convenience or complete online and print straight away.

It's that simple.
