Independent Director
The Hon Peter Collins AM QC was appointed as one of three independent Board Directors selected jointly by the Australian Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Union (LHMU) and the Australian Hotels Association (AHA) to commence in July 2006.
Peter worked as a journalist for ABC TV and practiced at the New South Wales Bar before his eminent 22 years in the New South Wales Parliament.
As a member of the important Public Accounts Committee, Peter worked with the later Premier Bob Carr and Treasurer Michael Egan to investigate the unfunded super liability of the New South Wales Government. This resulted in a landmark report on superannuation with major corrective action taken by following governments. Peter held 6 portfolios but principally as Treasurer, Attorney General, and Minister for Health over a 7 year period.
In the late 1990s Peter built strong working relationships with the Australian Hotels Association and Clubs and the Restaurant and Catering Association, pioneering policies on outdoor dining and passive smoking.
Peter is also a board member of the Workers Compensation Insurance Fund Investment Board and Macquarie Generation, both positions appointed by the New South Wales Government.
He was also appointed Chair of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare by the Commonwealth Government in 2004. He is also Chair of the Cancer Institute (NSW) and Chairman of St John Ambulance (NSW) since 2007.
An active Naval Reserve Officer, he holds the rank of Commander and has undertaken Administrative Inquiries for the Australian Defence Force since leaving Parliament in 2003.
Peter is also a member of the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST).
